11/17/12--A Change in Mind--Troy Homecoming

Interesting Title right? Well This past weekend I went to Troy for homecoming with Logan. It was a great time which came with little sleep for me.
The weekend started with me waking up at 6:30 in the morning to leave for Troy at 7:45 getting there at 11:45 and grabbing some lunch with my boyfriend. After that he had to do some work with his Fraternity at the Boy & Girls Club. While he was doing that I hung out with one of his friends from Choctaw county who I have know of for a long time but just now met. Her and her current roommates are really great people. I could possible be rooming with them in the Fall of 2013 when I transfer. I then left to check in to the Days Inn and after he was done there, got ready for the Fraternity's cocktail party.
The cocktail party was really nice. I was introduced to his Little Brother and a bunch of Frat Alumni and their wives. I suppose my favorite part was when the brothers and the alumni got together and did Magic Carpet Ride (a tradition in the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity). It was so cool seeing the older men, in their 50s and 60s go around with the younger guys.

After the cocktail party I went back to the hotel and went to bed only to wake up at 7:30 for the always lovely free breakfast they offer. Then I got ready and headed to the LXA house at 9:30 to get a parking space (because God knows if I got there any later there would be no parking on that campus). I went to Starbucks and got coffee while they walked in the parade with the Boys & Girls Club. Once they were back we tailgated at the house with brothers and alumni. It was really cool. Before lunch they have the tradition of reading off the names of house mothers, little sister, and brothers who have died. They also had a few words from mothers of brothers who died. It was amazing seeing how much these people cared about each other. One mother stated I may have lost a son but I have gained brothers. (This is where the title comes in) I often wondered if I could ever get use to having a boyfriend in a fraternity. After this weekend I think I can. Its a lot more than just claustrophobic parties with loud music and a bunch of boys "being boys." Its about tradition. Frankly I love tradition. No I will most likely not join a sorority. (I never say never, I also on thought I would never date a frat boy.) Sorority girls I have learned get on my last nerves. ANYWAYS, I like the tradition. It gives meaning.

To continue with the weekends events, after tailgating me and Logan walked around campus and looked around at others tailgating and then we got my ticket and grabbed a seat at the game. Troy lost so we left early.  Later that night we went to the post game party at the house and the band Lucky Town was amazing! One of Logan friends from Grove Hill that I have already meet a few times came, so it wasn't as awkward standing around when Logan ran to do something.
Sunday we went to church then we ate at Mamma G's and packed up and came home. Pretty great weekend.
PS I know Logan is going to read this, so I Love you! :)
